Behan papers, 1875-1900.

Original letters and documents as well as photocopies relating to the life of John Behan. Includes biographical material, legal documents relating to his appointment as prison superintendent, court papers from Behan vs. Goodfellow, 1883, concerning rental property, and a Cochise County expense account for delivering election materials kept by Behan while Sheriff in 1882. There are also transcripts from George Parson's diary concerning Behan.

Cochise County sheriff, Territorial legislator, Prison superintendent, and Inspector of Customs; Behan arrived in Tucson in 1863. He served in many public law enforcement positions including his appointment as Sheriff of Cochise County in 1879.
